Meeting The June 11, 2003 MN IAAI quarterly meeting was called to order at 0840 hours by President Jamie Novak. The Secretary was out of the country therefore minutes were taken by Director Michael Tremain. Secretarys Report The Secretarys report was approved. Treasurers Report The Treasurers report was approved. Committee Reports Charlie OBrien reported there has been very little activity and there are no pending requests for rewards. Charlie has noted some media outlets are reporting arson rewards of $2,500 and it should be up to $2,500. The committee will place a notice in the MN IAAI newsletter reminding people to use the posters and brochures. The committee is putting together arson reward flyers for departments to post. The committee will check into placing reward information in the Smokeater newsletter. Arson Awareness Mike Tremain advised the Governors Fire Day at the State Fair will be Friday August 22nd. Contact him if you are interested in helping out. Jamie Novak thanked the Centennial Fire Department for their assistance with our live burn training. Our house explosion was held on May 8th and 9th and was a success. KSTP has video on the website at www.kstp.com. Awards Mike Tremain reminded members its never too early to make nominations. Training and Education 2004 St. Cloud seminar dates will be March 24, 25 and 26th. Legislation Denise DeMars advised a bodily harm subpart has been entered into the Arson statute under 5th degree arson where it will now be a gross misdemeanor if someone is injured as a result of an arson fire. Contact either Denise or Mike Tremain if you have any suggestions for upcoming arson legistlation. They will work this summer on putting something together that will allow the Attorney Generals office to take over an arson case if the County Attorneys office isnt interested or doesnt have the resources to prosecute it. previously mentioned, Govs day at the State Fair will be Friday August 22, 2003. Jamie reminded people they can download the newsletter from the chapters website. By-Laws No report. Fire Marshal's Office Jerry Rosendahl introduced himself as the newly appointed State Fire Marshal and looks forward to working with us. Executive Directors' Report Jamie advised we have $3,200 outstanding from people who have yet to pay for the 2003 seminar. Juvenile Fire Setters Kathy Mischke has been appointed to be the chairperson and representative of MNIAAI Juvenile Fire Setters program. Old Business 1. Private Fire Investigation class: No report. 2. Courtroom testimony course: Will offer course in either December or January. 3. Still looking for apartments or motels for test burns. 4. Mike Tremain attended the WI IAAI seminar and has passed on ideas to our education and training committee. 5. Jamie advised Arson Awareness week went well and thanked the Centennial and Lake Crystal Fire Departments for an outstanding job.
New Business 1. Jamie would like to compose a list of members who are willing to inspect fires which have been ruled as an arson but the victim disputes it. He will provide more information on this in the future. 2. ATF ASAC Guy Thomas was in attendance and introduced himself. He has a history of being involved with arson investigation teams and the IAAI chapters in the different states he has worked in and is looking forward to joining and working with the Minnesota Chapter.
